Northwest Conference on Teaching for Social Justice / October 4
This fall will be the first ever Northwest Conference on Teaching for Social Justice - held in Seattle on Saturday October 4th. I hope you'll make plans to attend. It's sponsored by a number of education social justice groups throughout the region, including Portland Area Rethinking Schools, Puget Sound Rethinking Schools in Seattle, Olympia Educators for Social Justice, as well as Rethinking Schools magazine.
Check out the website for the conference at www.nwtsj.org. The conference is modeled after the annual, and inspirational, Teachers 4 Social Justice conference in San Francisco (this year held the following weekend at Mission High School -- see www.t4sj.org.) This will be a chance to meet other teachers, student teachers, teacher educators, and parent activists who see their work as part of a broader education for social justice project. There will be excellent workshops, discussions, and displays of social justice teaching materials. We'll send out more details as the conference approaches, but please put this on your calendar and make plans to try to attend.
In fact, it may not be too late to propose a workshop. More details are at the www.nwtsj.org website
