Climate Change: Global Connections and Sustainable Solutions

This 5 clock-hour workshop is designed for 6-10th grade educators (but
others are welcome) who are interested in building science, social studies,
math, and governance lessons about climate change into their classrooms. 

 

This workshop will teach you ways to engage students in understanding
climate change from multiple perspectives and empower them to create their
own solutions. This session will provide hands-on, interactive lessons for
teachers to take part in and learn the science teaching skills and content
knowledge necessary to teach about climate change and its interconnections
to the environment, society, and the economy.

 

All workshop participants will receive a CD that includes middle and high
school units on climate change. Clock hours are available at no extra cost
for those attending the workshop. Facing the Future offers OSPI "Continuing
Education Clock Hour Credit/In-service Registration" forms the day of the
workshop for free.

 


Workshop participants will learn:

*	Understand the science behind the greenhouse effect and changing
temperatures
*	Learn about the carbon cycle and carbon footprints
*	Understand effects of climate change on societies in different
locations 
*	Describe market-based solutions to climate change
*	Debate climate change policy from multiple viewpoints 
*	Assess their carbon footprint
*	Develop personal solutions to climate change
*	Receive free climate change curriculum
*	Take part in lessons that meet the National Science Education
Standards and National Council for the Social Studies Standards
