MAY 21, 2009, 4:30 8:45 p.m.
University of Washington, Seattle Campus
The East Asia Resource Center invites educators in grades K-14 to a special
evening workshop on the environmental movement in China. Participants will
have reserved seating at the 2009 Severens-Ravenholt Lecture, given this
year by Jingjing Zhang, outspoken environmental advocate and one of China¹s
leading public interest lawyers. She will lecture on law and the
environmental movement in China. UW Anthropology Professor Stevan Harrell
will give a background talk for workshop participants on Chinese
environmentalism and its discontents. The workshop also includes teaching
materials, four free clock hours, a Chinese buffet supper, free parking, and
an informal post-lecture reception.
Pre-registration must be received at the East Asia Resource Center by May
15. The workshop fee is just $15, thanks to program sponsors. The
registration form is posted at jsis.washington.edu/earc/. Registration
confirmation and workshop details including location and parking will be
sent by email.
Preregistration is not required for the Severens-Ravenholt lecture by
Jingjing Zhang. It begins at 7:00 p.m. in Kane Hall Room 110. Sponsors and
supporters are the Severens-Ravenholt Lectureship, the National Committee on
U.S.-China Relations Public Intellectuals Program, the UW East Asia Resource
Center, and the Freeman Foundation.
