Approaching the Causes of Conflict CBA

Global Source Education is offering a professional day for elementary and
secondary social studies educators and teacher librarians dedicated to
developing and honing the Causes of Conflict Classroom Based Assessment
(CBA).
· What are the curricular constructs which frame a Causes of Conflict
Classroom Based Assessment?
· What makes for a meaningful study of causes of conflict?
· How does this CBA and topic of study fit into a larger social studies
curriculum?
· Where are the local and global connections to help make this a lived
curriculum?
· How are other teachers going about developing, implementing and
assessing this CBA?
Topic to be Covered
* Understanding the curricular anatomy of the Causes of Conflict CBA
* Approaching teaching and learning with and through the CBAs
* Balancing and maximizing professional discretion and structural
constraints with the CBAs
* Approaching the study of conflict in elementary and secondary education
* Organizing principles and pathways for teaching and learning
* Strategies for implementation and assessment
* Establishing a CBA support network
- Tuition: $45
- BYO Lunch, refreshments provided
- Clock hours provided (additional fee)
- Transportation to and from the Bainbridge ferry is available for walk on
passengers
- Bring your COC CBA unit to share with the group
In collaboration with OSPI's Social Studies Program, school districts, and
others, Global Source, is helping to meet the needs of districts and
educators in support of the statewide implementation of the CBA¹s. Jonathan
Garfunkel, social studies specialist and director of Global Source, has been
designing and facilitating a series of teacher education programs to
cultivate professional learning and build teacher leadership around the
development of curriculum to meet the new WA State social studies reform.
Jon has been a lead CBA trainer, and consultant with schools and districts
on CBA professional development, implementation and integration.
